With support from the EITC Pooled Fund, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities has developed a new Program Participation Data Dashboard, providing links and interactive tables of state-by-state data on participants in a variety of programs for families and individuals living with low income including EITC, SNAP, Medicaid and CHIP and SSI.
The data show the numbers and characteristics of program participants — such as age, race, gender, and rural (nonmetropolitan areas) residence — as well as benefit payments, drawing on the most reliable source available for each estimate (such as program records or Census Bureau surveys). For context, data is also provided on the size and characteristics of each state’s entire population, and people in families with low income or below the poverty line, defined in a number of ways. Selected data are available for smaller geographic areas, including data on tax credit participants by congressional district.
This tool will be incredibly helpful to funders and grantees seeking to better understand the reach and impact of these programs in local communities across the US.
