The State EITC Rapid Response Fund (RRF) has awarded $174,000 to organizations in six states to advance tax fairness and economic opportunity for low-income workers and families through the promotion, protection and expansion of state EITCs.
New in 2021: Given the challenges presented to low-income families because of COVID and the economic downtown, this year the State EITC Rapid Response Fund expanded its support to include efforts focused on elevating state EITCs, CTCs or other tax credits as part of a larger economic security campaign that includes other emergency cash support policies (such as stimulus, emergency cash for front-line workers or immigrant families, but not Unemployment Insurance).
2021 RRF Awardees include:
- Georgia: awarded $30,000 to the Georgia Budget & Policy Institute to continue efforts to build public support for the creation of a state EITC (locally known as the Georgia Work Credit).
- Louisiana: awarded $30,000 to the Louisiana Budget Project to support efforts to create a Child Tax Credit and protect and increase the state EITC.
- New Mexico: awarded $30,000 to New Mexico Voices for Children to support efforts to expand the state’s cash assistance program to families who have been excluded from much COVID relief, increasing the state’s EITC (the WFTC) and expanding it to include young workers without children and immigrants regardless of status, and increasing a state tax rebate (LICTR) that has not been increased since 1998.
- Oklahoma: awarded Oklahoma Policy Institute $30,000 to support efforts to restore refundability and expand the existing EITC; to keep the EITC from being further eroded due to budget shortfalls; and to increase the existing sales tax relief credit, which has not been adjusted since 1998.
- Oregon: awarded Oregon Center for Public Policy $30,000 to support efforts to expand the state EITC to ITIN filers and provide an additional amount equal to what ITIN filers are denied under the federal EITC.
- Washington: awarded $24,500 to the Washington State Budget & Policy Center to support efforts to build public support to fund and expand the state EITC, known as the Working Families Tax Credit, to ITIN filers.
The State EITC Rapid Response Fund (EITC RRF) was established in 2012 as an invitation only fund and focuses on quick infusions of support to fill an immediate need within an existing state EITC, CTC or other tax credit advocacy push or campaign.
